psychedelic sway

As a Part II to the previous post, whatever show had Reading Rainbow and Eternal Summers play as psychedelic colour dreams, I wish I was there.

Reading Rainbow.

For the past week I have been infatuated with the Philly band Reading Rainbow.
Then I found this Super 8 video and that just certified their greatness.
Go analog!

the last days of Movember

Here's an Ode to those who keep it strong for all time.

scenes from movies that are liked, Pt. I

Before Sunrise/Before Sunset. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.
In the 'yea-that-flick-is-great' pile, because of the realism versus the rom-coms out there with overly romanticized and let's-just-say mediocre ideals of love. Plus, its the 90's! Austria! A poet! Second part, Paris! Unrequited love and reality! A cat! Nina Simone! It's all great. Of all the scenes out there on the world-wide-web, these were two favourites from both films. And coincidently, titled 'Best Parts'..therefore, it is true.

Before Sunrise is better of the two. Innocent. Optimistic. Hopeful.

Volume is a bit low on this video, turn up!

band theory.

..this artistically brilliant web diagram, drawn on MSPaint, is exactly, pretty much, the trivial question we are trying to figure out about our band's sound, when we finally get to play together in person and not over a computer box, named Skype. This web-diagram is based on characteristics we like, not the bands themselves, even though they're great too. Because when you think of noise, you don't think of MBV or Sonic Youth, you think Wavves, right? Fine. Admitted. It's the first band that came to mind. And Sunset Rubdown because, well, Kate needs Krug's keyboard inspiration.
We will get there!

sun-tanned distortion... beach breeze bliss... dreaming of July...

...Best Coast !.
cheers to lovely videos like this...who doesn't want to embrace and make love on the beach...or in the snow....or ride horses in a field of wild grass....with a dreamy soundtrack on the tapedeck

Have a dreamy day of day-dreaming of summer!

That's an interesting point. Come on, let's get into character.

Knorr Goracy Kubek

I bought several packets of Knorr soup from Starsky's, the cheap European food store, known for its delectable eats from places where meat, cheese, the potato, and pickle reign. After pouring in the water, to my surprise the 'soup' ended up being undesirably thick, thus, definitely not soup. Unless stew comes in a cup now. It was mashed potato. In a cup. Like cup-o'-soup. But mashed potato. It's great if sometimes, like any other snack, you really need that kick of mashed potato. It's something I'll think about all day. Mashed potato. Waiting for my return home, late in the afternoon.
Happy hour. And mashed potato.
So tasty.
I was surprised, you'll be surprised. I highly recommend mashed potato in a cup. It will blow your mind.

I am guilty, my 14-yr old past self especially.

Imogen Cunningham

K: Prepare thyself, there may be several postings from me in the next while on the topic of 'photo-history'. Reason? for the past 2 days I've read an entire photo-history text I am expected to present to my class. In this final year Masters class [photo-preservation], you are expected to understand and recognize many, if not all, photo histories, and there are several. One must critically enable yourself to 'take-a-step-back', as coined by my regal French prof, and understand not history, but 'histories'. So far I am 3 out of 6 done. *sigh* As I'm a pro-photo-historian in the making, I've come to admire and greatly love the work of Imogen Cunningham's nude photographs. She's an American photographer, best known for her images of botanicals, nudes, and industry. Her flower portraits are definitely comparable to O'Keefe's paintings of the same nature. She respects the individuality of the sitter and distances herself and her subject from being overly voyeuristic. Highly recommend looking at her work, and others from the west coast f64 group.

'Foutaises' et 'Micmacs à Tire Larigot'

K: while eagerly anticipating Jean-Pierre Jeunet's new film, Micmacs à Tire Larigot, here's a short film by said director with Dominique Pinon, frequent Jeunet-thespian, and theatrical trailer for Micmacs. Sorry, couldn't find one with english-subtitles.

coffee art, pt. I

The 3,604 coffee cups were filled with different amounts of milk to create the varying shades.
Amazing!

Elliott Erwitt

K: Beyond being one of my favourite photographers, Elliott Erwitt, my thoughts exactly.

Elliott Erwitt by Alec Soth

Sidenote: before I knew anything about Erwitt and his work at Magnum, my first encounter was a solo expedition to the only photo museum in Nice, France that I could find. I got lost and confused in the obviously most chic part of town. The destination was worth it!
